Most of the time I’d say our life on the road is really good. My band is made up of some great people. Kind, considerate, and pretty darn funny. We can have a good life with the simplest of things giving us thanks to be there. Sometimes it’s a great meal in some small town, sometimes it’s just the people we get to meet that make us smile and realize that life is good. Most of the time things are smooth but on the road as much as we are, probably the biggest issue we run into is bad weather. Of course, you’ve probably read my accounts of a bus tire blowing out, the engine freezing up and the bus catching on fire. Stuff happens. But we just keep on rolling. Recently we enjoyed going to Sisseton, SD. It’s quite a haul from Texas but the jokes being told were pretty good. Most of ‘em I’d only heard twice before. What makes us happy is when we have a packed house with a crowd of fans that are really listening and showing us their enthusiasm for our performance. When the crowd is so alive, we try even harder to please them. We had that kind of audience in Sisseton and we gave them everything we could.
The good folks at the venue even made us a cake that night. Thank you to the fans in Sisseton and to our fans everywhere that appreciate the kind of country music we do. I call it “real” country but you can say it’s classic or maybe traditional – whatever you want to call it, I’m proud to still find all of you helping to keep “real” country alive and well. There are some young kids who are doing their part so when you find one in your area playing real country, get out and support them too. Together, we’ll keep this great music going!
