I was reminded of this moment from 2008 recently – one of the odd moments in my life – when I managed to mangle my hand while playing golf. I wonder what the statistics are of someone breaking their hand while playing golf? But somehow when I reached back for a different club, I brought my hand down and broke some bones.
I was scheduled to perform that week on the Crook & Chase television show, to promote my album, “In A Perfect World.” For the second time ever, Rhonda Vincent and I were going to sing together, and again, it was for a TV show (the first being a live TV version of the Grand Ole Opry.) Since that was a big deal, I couldn’t cancel, so I drove from Houston to Nashville with one hand and of course, it was quite the conversation starter with our good friends, Lorianne Crook and Charlie Chase. Thankfully, everything turned out fine on the show and I put those golf clubs away to collect dust – but I’m happy to say that I’m still singing with fellow Opry member, Rhonda Vincent, and we’ve sung together in all sorts of different and unusual situations but just like we did then, we make it work no matter what. That’s showbiz!
