GENE WATSON UPDATE

Dear Friends-   Can you believe summer is nearly over… Labor Day brings back memories from my youth because we didn’t start school til after Labor Day. These days some kids are in school as early as August.   Labor Day means a nice long weekend for most folks in the USA  and I hope you’re going to enjoy some time off .  I’m  in Canada this week for  shows with Rhonda Vincent at the Auction Barn in Colborne (Ontario) and I know that will be fun.  We’ve got a radio interview Tuesday morning (early!) with Mix 97  (Ontario) and a CD signing at a local store. Then next week we’re headed to Branson, September 4, 5,and 6th.   I’m hearing the Thursday, September 6th show is nearly sold out so plan to come in for September 4th and 5th.  Just come on and enjoy the middle of the week with Moe Bandy, me and our two great bands.  I hear some of the Larry’s Country Diner folks might surprise us there and Larry, himself, will be the host for each show. You know it’s going to be fun! For tickets, call 1+866-991-8445.    Thanks for stopping by here and stay in touch – you can email me at Artist@LytleMgMt.com      Take care, Gene

GENE WATSON – A note to the fans- come see me in Branson!

Hi Friends –  Had a busy week in Nashville with a great show at the Grand Ole Opry Wednesday night.  I spoke with the Opry General Manager, Pete Fisher, and he told me they were enjoying great crowds at the Opry so they thought they’d try some Wednesday nights which seem to be going very well.  He also said the water park near the Opry is still being planned. I think that will be great for fans to have that . Like most folks I  never quite understood why the Opryland Park had to go – that was a beautiful place.  Hopefully the new park will bring back that same feeling and be good for families coming to Nashville.  Add a little fun in with your Country Music!   At the Opry Wednesday night I tried out a song I’ve been singing in concert lately, the Eddy Arnold classic “Make the World Go Away.”  I hope you got to hear it. I do it with a little blues spin on it.    Backstage, I had a chance to say hello to old friend, John Conlee, who’s still just as great as ever and I also visited with Steve Wariner -one of the great country singers and an amazing guitar player. Not to mention he is one of the nicest guys you will ever meet.         So for news –  Moe Bandy and I are going to co-headline a show in Branson, Missouri  September 4, 5 and 6 at the Starlite Theatre there.   We’re bringing BOTH bands and you know if you’ve ever seen Moe, it’s going to be a fun show.  I don’t know what it is about him but he can sure make me laugh. Of course he’s got some of the best legendary songs. How about a CMA Song of the Year?  ”It’s A Cheating Situation” sung with Ms. Janie Fricke.  That was such a great one.  ”Bandy The Rodeo Clown”… he’s got at least 10 # 1 songs and too many Top Tens to list.  We’re going to be there for 3 days and we sure hope you can take a few vacation days and come out to see us.  Of course we’ll be visiting with the fans after each show as we always do so put September 4, 5 and 6 on your calendar and come on out to see us!     www.StarliteTheatre.com   Ticket phone is 866-991-8445

A NEW YEAR!

Hi Friends-  Can you believe it’s officially 2012!   The band and I really brought the New Year in with a bang. We had a fine time New Year’s Eve at the Coupland Dance Hall in Texas. If you haven’t been to this place be sure to check it out sometime. It has an Inn, restaurant and the dance hall so a fine time can be had with sort of one stop shopping.   We then rolled on to New Mexico where we played the Black Gold Casino in Hobbs and enjoyed that show with Moe Bandy, TG Sheppard and Jeannie Seely.  Saw a whole lot of fans there and thought that was a nice way to kick off 2012.  Thanks to Sean Brady who runs the fan website (www.Gene-Watson.com)  for sending in this note today “nearly 30 years since ‘Fourteen Carat Mind’ (‘Lonely me’ was on the ‘b’ side) was No.1 on the Billboard country music singles chart (Saturday 9 January 1982 – Saturday 16 January 1982); the catalogue number was MCA Records 51183.”   30 years and that song is still going strong!      Most of you probably know by now we’re celebrating my 50th year in the music business.  Lots of great things planned and I’m looking forward to my Best of the Best , 25 Greatest Hitsbeing released Feb. 14th.     Stay tuned here for all the latest news on that project.    Coming up Jan. 16-21 is the Country Family Reunion cruise – heard it’s sold out but we’ll have some photos to share from that I am sure.  I’m sure there’s something else I want to tell you but I’ll just have to write more later.    Below’s a photo taken by Sally Bedow who came to the Coupland Dance Hall show New Year’s Eve .      Take care and hope you have a great New Year!   Gene
