Dear Fans – It’s been awhile since we’ve caught up about what’s going on in my world ! I’m just back from the Country Family Reunion cruise to Alaska! What a great time that was with all those amazing artists and the fun crew from Larry’s Country Diner!! I think this may have been the best cruise ever - and each one has been incredible. Musically, we enjoyed outstanding songs from Dailey & Vincent, Bill Anderson, Jeannie Seely, Jimmy Fortune, Rhonda Vincent, Jim Ed Brown, Sweethearts of the Rodeo and of course, my good pal, Moe Bandy. One amazing song after another just blew me away including Jimmy Fortune with his high tenor singing “How Great Thou Art” with Dailey & Vincent. I saw more than one teary eye in the crowd on that one. Then Bill Anderson moved the audience to more tears with a beautiful rendition of “Old Army Hat” which he dedicated to a WW II veteran in the audience (the audience were on their feet with an ovation for this great veteran before Bill sang the first note!). Ms. Jeannie Seely had the audience standing and begging for more when she sang her fun song , a parody of the Elvis tune “Are You Lonesome Tonight” in which she laments the agonies of growing old. Dailey & Vincent knocked it out of the park with a Statler Brothers hit, “I’ll Go To My Grave Loving You”. You know I like to tease my buddy Moe Bandy ALL the time but besides being one of the funniest people you’ll ever meet, he’s truly one of the best Entertainers you’ll ever see and a powerful singer. He gave outstanding performances of “Bandy The Rodeo Clown” and “Too Old To Die Young”. If you couldn’t get enough music during the regular shows, the energizer bunny known as Rhonda Vincent, held nightly jams (with her Mom on standup bass and a good crew of other musicians ). I got to hear Moe tell a few jokes one night and then he sang his CMA Song of the Year “It’s a Cheatin’ Situation” with Janis Oliver of Sweethearts of the Rodeo filling in on the original Janie Fricke part. You know you had to be there for that! There was something musical going all the time — and we haven’t even talked about the great ports in Alaska! The glaciers we saw were spectacular ! Folks were seeing whales off the side of the ship and it was just something special. Alaska should be on everyone’s bucket list. I’ll leave you here with a few photos from the cruise . Take care and come see us on the road, Gene

Oh yes, it’s March and supposed to be SPRING in a few weeks. Well, we’ll see how that works out. Might have another Arctic Polar blast or whatever they’ve been calling it before we see what I call spring weather . At least it was nice for one week during the CFR cruise. I love Texas but I sure enjoyed a week of good weather in St. Thomas and St. Maartan in the middle of winter. Hate to rub that in to you folks still dealing with frozen tundra. I enjoyed meeting a lot of nice fans on the cruise too. We had shows with Bill Anderson, Jim Ed Brown, Helen Cornelius, Bill Dean, David Frizzell, Rhonda Vincent, The Church Sisters and Mo Pitney. I had not heard the young twins, The Church Sisters before and they were amazing with their harmonies. Also enjoyed the fine voice of young Mo Pitney who is on Curb Records. I’m sure we’ll be hearing much more from these young artists and it’s nice to know they love classic country as we do.
Back here on dry land, the band and I are ready to hit the road for our March shows. Starting with this weekend, we’ll be in Rosco, TX (March 7), Arlington, TX (March 8), Hartselle, AL (March 14) ,Pace, FL (March 15), Washington, IN (March 22) and Lawton, OK (March 29).
Hate to do this to you but guess I’ll leave you with a few photos from the cruise. It was so much fun with Larry’s Country Dinercrew that we’re going to do an Alaskan cruise July 19-26th. Everyone says that is an event of a lifetime so sign up for that and enjoy Alaska when it’s sweltering in July. Just go to this link for more information: www.CFRCRUISE.com.
Hi Friends- I’m out on the high seas with the Larry’s Country Diner and Country Family Reunion cruise this week. We’re heading out to St. Thomas and St. Maartan and hopefully lots of sunny weather. After the arctic blast we’ve all had this winter, I’m looking forward to thawing out a bit. I’ve had a few fans ask me if the occasional rocking of the ship ever bothers me and I tell them the truth – after so many years on a tour bus , a person just gets used to all that swaying motion. Highly unlikely I would ever get sea sick ! I wish you were with us to enjoy the fun and mayhem that Larry’s crew will undoubtedly bring but maybe we can all cruise again next year.
Here are some photos from last year’s cruise : That’s me with The Sheriff, the great Jimmy Capps as we are about to rehearse a song
and then before the doors open to the show, you can see Nadine is watching to see just where that sound man is gonna stick that microphone cord on me. They stuck hers down the back of her frock so guess she’s thinking I’d better get equal treatment!
