Gene Watson Enjoys Tour of England and Ireland
Hi Friends – I’m over in Ireland today for shows in Bundoran and Armagh and just finished my shows in England. It was a great time to have a birthday as those English folks sure know how to throw a party! I appreciate all the cards, flowers and gifts. It was a very special 70th birthday for sure. It’s always fun here to see everyone driving on the wrong side of the road. Haha. I’m not actually doing any driving myself which might be a good thing. It’s hard enough walking and crossing the street since it’s so easy to be looking the wrong direction.
But such wonderful fans we have here and it makes me happy that our shows are all sold out. It’s so interesting to me also that from a historical point, often in the US, we love a great old building that might have survived from the late 1800′s but folks, over here it’s not even close to old unless it was built before the 1400′s. Seems like every restaurant or shop building is at least early 1800′s so that barely makes a ripple. Have you ever noticed all their pubs are called The Nags Head or the Lamb & Flag or something like that. Ours are called “Joe’s” . They need one called the “Moe & Gene’s ” don’t you think? Hope you can make the trip yourself sometime. If you like castles, you can see all sorts in both England and Ireland and these days they even allow you to spend the night. I personally don’t need to stay in a castle. I figure the moment I do, that ‘ll be the be the day the plumbing goes out . Never know what could happen to a place over 500 years old. I’ll be back in the USA October 18rth and performing in Texas at the Old Lovelady Gym. Reckon that gym is what, maybe 40 years old?
You take care and come see us sometime , Gene
