Survived another “Fan Fair”

Hi Friends – I’m in Wisconsin at the Oneida Casino in Green Bay so come on out to see us perform if you’re in this area.  I wanted to mention what an exciting week it was last week at CMA Music Fest – forever known to anyone over 30 as FAN FAIR. I heard there was even an industry group trying to get it re-named Fan Fair again.  Rolls off the tongue a bit better than the other.   Whatever they call it, I’ve been attending off and on for many years starting somewhere around 1973 I think.  This year we had a whole lot of great shows.  The first was the CMA Global Party where I filled in for my ailing friend, Lisa McHugh who was planning to be there representing Ireland. Unfortunately, Lisa had some back trouble and was not allowed to fly so I sang a few songs. We hope Lisa is feeling much better and hopefully next year everyone at CMA Fest time can hear her amazing voice.   Also enjoyed singing with Billy Yates’ band for his annual “Countriest of the Country” show. Billy always has a sold out show and the money raised goes to a local children’s charity. Check it out next year if you’re in Nashville .  On Thursday we kicked the day off with a concert for WSM-AM Radio. The great Jimmy Capps led the band and Jimmy’s wife and phenomenal vocalist, Michele Capps, sang background vocals.  It’s always a pleasure working with them and with all the folks at WSM-AM Radio. That afternoon it was off to the CMA Bud Light Stage where I visited with T. Graham Brown, Janie Fricke , Moe Bandy and Moore & Moore.  We had a great time and the weather was spectacular.  Hope some of you got to see a few of these shows .   Looks like I’ll be spending July 4th in England this year.  Don’t reckon I’ll be seeing any fireworks there but I’ll be celebrating in my own way – maybe having an extra helping of Fish & Chips.  Below are some of the photos taken during CMA Music Fest –   Hope you’re doing great and I’ll look for you out on the road,  Gene

Gene Watson in my opion is one of the greatest singers in country music. And he’s not like some of the new artist with their “ATTITUDES.” He is just real down to earth and loves his fans.

Gene is the best. My father loved “Farewell Party” (which is really hard to find these days) He was at a bar one time and spent $15.00 on this song, playing it continuously. When he left they took the song off of the jukebox. Before my father passed he said he wanted it played at his funeral, so we did. Thanks Gene for making a great song for a great man.

What would it take to get Mr. Watson out to a small town in the Central Valley of California?

Gene Watson not only is the Greatest singer in country music but the greatest singer period! I do a little singing and I strive to sound as much like him as I can. This man should have won every award there is. He needs no flashing lights, no dancers only his band and that fantastic voice. He has never got his dues.

I never thought I would fall in love again…but I have…with Gene Watson – his music – as he is now.   May God continue to bless him with good health and keep his voice sound as he makes his contribution to the “country music world” as country will always be…  Gene make a trip to South Carolina….
