From The Road – Gene’s World : It’s June !
I’m riding down the highway with the Farewell Party Band as we head to our shows in Lufkin, TX tonight and Bowie, TX tomorrow night. Looking forward to the shows as always. You know I get asked all the time in interviews how I keep the show exciting for myself since I’ve been singing some of the hits nearly 40 years now. I always say that for me, every single night is like the first time. I really go onstage with the thought that this is the one night that I have to show my fans what I can do , what the band can do and we just try to knock it out of the park every single time. That’s what makes it so much fun for all of us. Now granted, some days are diamonds and some days are dust – as the expression goes. We can’t control if the sound equipment gets a little wacky but we do enjoy performing and we know we’ve got the best fans you could possibly have. One thing we love to do is work up a new song we think you’ll enjoy and try that onstage. It’s a lot of fun to hear the crowd react positively. In fact my fans have made a huge impact on what I’ve recorded. If I try out a song and it’s a huge hit, somewhere down the line I’m going to try to get that on record. Another way we keep our shows fresh is that we never know exactly what we’ll do each night. Some artists do what they call a “set list” and they do that same list night after night after night. ’Reckon I’d be a little crazy if I had to do that. Might as well be counting flowers on the wall. So we have fun onstage and decide on the spot what to do. That will keep you on your toes. Hope you have a great weekend and enjoy the summer! Gene
